In 2015, Shaun Harrison, 63, was hired by the Boston Public Schools district to serve as a school dean at English High School, a public, magnet school. This means that the Boston school dean must work as the middleman between teachers and students, contact families whenever problems with students arise, and work with students who have a high probability of dropping out of school.

However, an article in the Fox News states that the Boston school dean forced a 17-year-old student to sell marijuana in the high school. When the student declined to sell drugs, Harrison shot them in the back of their head in an attempt to kill them. Reports say the student survived but has suffered from permanent hearing loss, partial face paralysis, and other injuries.

Charges Faced by the Boston School Dean

According to LeBlanc, in 2018, the former Boston school dean was convicted and sentenced to 26 years in state prison for the shooting incident. Last year, Harrison also pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy, also known as RICO conspiracy, and was sentenced to another 18 years or more in prison.

In addition, a federal judge ordered Harrison to settle over $10 million in damages to the student he attempted to kill. However, to date, it is still not certain whether the victim will receive payments from the former Boston school dean.

Reports say the additional charge was related to the former Boston school dean’s association with the Latin Kings gang. Harrison portrayed himself as an anti-violence activist and mentor for teens, while allegedly baiting students into drugs and violence and concealing his ties with the Latin Kings.
