Missouri Man Accused of Dismembering the Body of a Missing Woman, Human Flesh Found Inside a Freezer

A Missouri man will face 60 years imprisonment after a judge sentenced him last week in relation to the disappearance, death, and dismemberment of a missing woman.

Missouri Man Accused of Dismembering the Body of a 33-Year-Old Woman

A 60-year-old Missouri man, James Phelps, will face 60 years imprisonment in connection to the disappearance, death, and dismemberment of the missing woman. The decision of the judge was released last week, according to a published article in TRUE CRIME DAILY.

The 33-year-old victim, Cassidy Rainwater, was last seen on July 25, 2021 and it was found that Phelps was the last person who saw her. During the investigation, it was found that Rainwater lived with  Phelps for several weeks and Phelps told the investigators that  she “met a vehicle at the end of the driveway and left in the middle of the night.”

Meanwhile, the FBI received a tip of a photo showing Rainwater bound to a gantry crane. According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office that a gantry crane is primarily used in deer processing. After knowing this, the FBI obtained a search warrant and served it to Phelp’s home.

During the search, the FBI authorities found items in the residence that coincide with what is found in the photo. After several days of searching, detectives found a freezer with human flesh inside and it has a date “7-24” which coincides with the day that Rainwater was last seen.

Phelps Entered Into an Alford Plea

The Missouri man James Phelps entered into an Alford Plea which means that he acknowledges that he would be found guilty during the trial. He was charged with first-degree murder and it was found that prosecutors will seek the death penalty once he is convicted of the crime.

Additionally, the co-conspirator of the crime, Timothy Norton, is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, and abandonment of a corpse but is still awaiting trial.
