On May 1, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, announced that the state’s taxpayers will begin receiving 2023 Tax Refunds for the second time this year. This is because the House Bill 162 was passed by the General Assembly last March. This means that part of Georgia’s surplus in revenue of over $6 billion will be used for the refunds of the income taxes from 2021.According to Williams, individual tax filers and married couples who filed individually can expect to receive 2023 Tax Refunds of up to $250. On the other hand, heads of households can expect to receive up to $375, while married couples who filed jointly are expected to receive up to $500.

Who qualifies for the 2023 Tax Refunds?
According to Johnson, to qualify for the 2023 Tax Refunds, tax filers must be residents of the state of Georgia. In addition, those who have been claimed as dependents and those who have tax liabilities in 2021 will also be qualified.
As was the case in 2022, tax filers still must have filed and paid taxes for the previous two years to be qualified for the 2023 Tax Refunds. Frank O’Connell, the Commissioner of Revenue of Georgia, stated that most tax refunds from last year have already been issued in July 2022.
The Department of Revenue is expecting all 2023 Tax Refunds for those who have filed by the deadline on April 18 to be issued within the next two months. Nonetheless, the tax refunds will not be issued until a taxpayer’s returns in 2022 have already been processed.
