Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a well-known environmental lawyer and vaccine skeptic, has filed paperwork to run for the presidency in 2024 as a Democrat. He is scheduled to announce his candidacy on April 19 in Boston. Kennedy is the son of the late New York senator Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of President John F. Kennedy.

Recently, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been in the headlines due to his decision to run for president in 2024.

Kennedy’s Kennedy’s Presidential Bid and Family’s Political Legacy

 

Kennedy is a prominent anti-vaccine activist who has been criticized for promoting discredited claims linking vaccines to autism. He founded Children’s Health Defense, an anti-vaccine organization. Kennedy has also criticized the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and spoken out against the coronavirus vaccine.

 

In 2022, according to Wall Street Journal, Kennedy Jr. gave a speech at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, in which he made comparisons to Nazi Germany in his arguments against vaccines. As a result, Instagram removed his account for repeatedly sharing false information about the coronavirus or vaccines.

 

Kennedy’s anti-vaccine views have caused controversy within his family. In a 2019 op-ed for Politico Magazine, his sister Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, brother Joseph P. Kennedy II, and niece Maeve Kennedy McKean criticized his ideas and charged him with taking part in a disinformation campaign that was having fatal repercussions.

Kennedy’s Presidential Bid and Family’s Political Legacy

 

If Kennedy decides to move forward with his presidential bid, he will continue his family’s legacy of political involvement. Many of his siblings and other relatives have held elected positions.

 

Kennedy’s bid for the presidency is still in the early stages, with President Joe Biden expected to announce his bid for re-election. On the Republican side, former President Donald Trump has already announced his candidacy for a third term, while other potential candidates, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence, are also considering bids, CNN reported.
