Zhou Zheng, the minister-counselor for congressional affairs at the Chinese embassy in Washington, had condemned the “Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act” in an email. Zhou claimed in the email that the legislation is anti-China and demanding for it to be stopped after it was passed by the House.

According to Martel, the email was directed to Republican representative Chris Smith’s office which prompted him to send a letter to Chinese president Xi Jinping. In Smith’s letter, he requested a visa to be able to visit Xinjiang, a region in China that is inhabited by the Uyghur Muslims.

“Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act”

According to Wallace, the “Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act” intends to impose serious punishments on those who are complicit to the Chinese Communist Party’s gruesome industry of stealing the internal organs of political prisoners. By visiting Xinjiang, Smith plans to personally evaluate the claims in Zhou’s email against the “Stop Forced Organ Harvesting Act”. The email reportedly stated that China thoroughly protects all of the ethnic minorities’ rights and interest, including those of the Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

Reports say Smith is also the Congressional-Executive Commission chairman on China. The Commission is a bipartisan, bicameral, and bi-branch organization that was established by the U.S. to keep an eye on China’s compliance to the standards of international human rights.
