Florida Democratic Party leaders arrested during abortion bill protest
Democratic Party chair Nikki Fried and state Democratic Senator Lauren Book were among 11 people arrested in Tallahassee during a protest against a new abortion bill. City officials had allowed the group to protest during normal operating hours but asked them to leave at sundown or face arrest according to FOX News.
The crowd left, but 11 individuals refused to leave and were arrested for trespassing. The bill proposed a ban on abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, which needs to be approved by the House before it can be signed by Governor Ron DeSantis.
Nikki Fried, a Democratic candidate for Florida Governor, attended a protest and tweeted, “I’m out and not ever backing down. Just vote @FlaDems!” Senator Book had taken part in a Senate debate against the proposed law and offered help to those in need.

City officials facilitate peaceful protest against abortion bill, but arrest those who refuse to leave
City officials in Tallahassee worked with protest organizers to ensure a safe environment to protest Senate Bill 300, a proposed law that would ban abortions after six weeks. But, they concluded that they couldn’t allow the protest due to the large expected crowd and the camping plan for the night. As a result, 11 people declined to depart and got detained for trespassing based on CBS Miami News.
