Sinaloa Cartel Leader Who Collaborated With ‘El Chapo’ Sent to U.S. after Extradition from Mexico

Jorge Ivan Gastelum Avila, a high-ranking member of the Sinaloa Cartel, was extradited to the US to face drug trafficking and firearms charges. He worked closely with Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman and was arrested in 2016 reported by CBS News.

Sinaloa Cartel Member Extradited to U.S. to Face Drug and Firearms Charges

Jorge Ivan Gastelum Avila, also known as “Cholo Ivan,” has been extradited from Mexico to the United States to face charges of drug trafficking and using firearms during drug trafficking crimes. He was arrested in 2016 alongside his boss, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, in Sinaloa, Mexico based on the article from NBC News.

Gastelum Avila was a “plaza boss” for Guamchil, supervised 200 armed men, and was in charge of drug-trafficking activities. He has been in Mexican custody since his arrest in 2016, facing life in prison for drug conspiracy and 30 years for a firearms offense.

Mexican Cartels Killing Americans with Fentanyl

The Sinaloa Cartel and Jalisco New Generation Cartel are responsible for the influx of fentanyl in the US, causing thousands of deaths. They are being deceitful on purpose to sell it by disguising it as fake pills, mixing it with other drugs, and using other methods.

Milgram said in a 2022 interview with “CBS Mornings” that the cartels are using calculated and deliberate methods to get people addicted to fentanyl and to make money. She called the situation catastrophic and said that the U.S. has never seen such record rates of deaths caused by fentanyl. The DEA continues to work with its partners in the U.S. and abroad to disrupt and dismantle these drug trafficking organizations.
