Never Back Down Super PAC Raises $30 Million in Just Four Weeks to Boost Ron DeSantis’ Potential Presidential Bid, While Trump Faces Indictment

Super PAC backing DeSantis raised $30M, promoting him on social media with veteran GOP operatives and strong financial support

A super PAC supporting the potential presidential bid of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has raised $30 million since its launch on March 9. The group, Never Back Down, has been actively promoting DeSantis and boosting his image on social media, bringing on veteran Republican operatives, and has so far received significant financial backing.

On Saturday night, Governor Ron DeSantis was present at an event in Long Island where he signed books (New York Times).

DeSantis Widely Expected to Enter the Race

DeSantis has yet to officially announce his candidacy but is widely expected to run for the Republican presidential nomination after the legislative session ends in May. His book tour promoting a recently published political memoir has been viewed as a way of preparing for a national campaign. DeSantis has already made trips to Iowa, which holds the first GOP caucuses of 2024, and is set to visit New Hampshire this month, which votes after Iowa.

Polls show that DeSantis is currently the strongest potential competitor for the GOP nomination, along with former President Donald Trump, according to NBC News. The field is still developing, and other declared candidates include Nikki Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

The Never Back Down super PAC has raised $30 million in less than four weeks, indicating an early appetite for a DeSantis campaign. The group can raise unlimited amounts from donors, and none of the money has been transferred from existing political accounts, such as DeSantis’ state campaign fund, which has over $80 million on hand.

Trump Facing Indictment

Former President Trump, who is also expected to run for the Republican nomination, has recently faced a setback. Trump was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury last week on charges related to document fraud connected to hush money he allegedly paid to cover up affairs.

Despite this, his campaign reportedly raised over $4 million in the 24 hours after news of the indictment broke.
