The Social Security Administration disburses payments throughout the month in rounds, and your payment date depends on how long you’ve been a Social Security recipient and your date of birth, according to CNET’s report on March 18, 2023. For those receiving SSI payments, March 1 is the payment date. For those who receive both SSI and Social Security or have received Social Security since before May 1997, payments are made on March 3.
Social Security payments for those with birthdays falling between the first and 10th of any given month will be sent out on March 8. Payments for those with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of any given month will be sent out on March 15. For those with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of any given month, payments will be sent out on March 22. Finally, April SSI payments will be sent out on March 31.
The Social Security Administration typically sends out payments on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month, and which day you receive your check depends on your birth date. If you receive both Social Security and SSI, the payment schedule is different. Instead of getting your payments on a Wednesday, you’ll receive your Social Security payment on the third day of each month and your SSI on the first day of each month.
If the first or third day of the month falls on a weekend or a holiday, those payment dates are changed. If you don’t receive your check on the expected date, wait three additional mailing days before reaching out. If you haven’t gotten it yet, call 800-772-1213 to talk with a representative. Wait times are shorter between 4 p.m. on Wednesdays through Fridays and 7 p.m. on weekday afternoons, according to SSA.
