Tracy Lynn Allen, a 54-year-old woman from Georgia, was arrested on March 17, 2022, for impersonating an official. Allen was going door to door in a Cobb County neighborhood, claiming to be with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). A Ring doorbell camera caught Allen on March 10th, 2022, asking for a person who didn’t live at the house and stating that she was with the GBI. Allen was also seen wearing what appeared to be a gun holster tucked into the waistband of her pants. The family living in the house reported Allen to the police. Cobb County Police Sgt. Wayne Delk said that the police and undercover officers always have identification on them, which Allen did not have.
After being informed that Allen had made threats on social media against some agencies in Cobb County, Dallas Police also warned other law enforcement agencies in the area. The motivation behind Allen’s impersonation is still unclear. Allen was charged with felony impersonating a public official or employee, and her bond was set at approximately $3,000.
Impersonating a public official or employee is a serious crime in the state of Georgia. According to Georgia Code 16-10-23, “A person commits the offense of impersonating a public officer or employee when he or she pretends to be a public officer or employee and performs any act in such pretended capacity.” The punishment for this crime can be imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of up to $1,000.
