The United States Social Security Administration has announced that some Social Security beneficiaries may receive an extra payment along with the last check of the month. The payment will be sent to all types of retirees, whether they are survivors, orphans, or for any other reason, within the next week. The payment is not determined by the type of benefit but by a personal and individual fact about each retiree, which is their birthday. Retirees born between the 21st and 31st of the month will receive the next Social Security payment, as reported by CNET on March 18, 2023.
In addition, recipients who also have Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive double money at the end of the month. The extra SSI payment will be sent on the last day of March. According to a report by Tododisca on March 17, 2023, to be eligible for the extra payment, the retiree must have previously accepted the benefit and meet the conditions, which include being 65 years of age or older, having a disability, and having low income or low resources. The maximum SSI amount is $914 for a single recipient, which can be doubled for couples applying for the benefit, according to Tododisca’s report.
For Social Security-age retirement benefits, the maximum check is $4,558 per month. However, it is important to maximize retirement age by working for 35 years and having a good salary as a worker before applying for a Social Security check to achieve a figure close to the maximum amount. This increase in benefits through the COLA may not have been enough due to rising inflation.
