A South Carolina man, Anthony Argoe, has been sentenced to life in prison for stabbing his wife, Lynda Shuler Argoe, 14 times with a butcher knife in June 2019. The jury deliberated for 40 minutes before announcing their verdict.
Based on a report by Fox News on February 13, 2023, on the night of the murder, the victim’s daughter called police for a welfare check on her mother. Upon arrival, officers found the victim’s motionless body propped up against the couch with the butcher knife sticking out of her neck.
During the trial, evidence was presented showing Argoe’s blood on his shorts and flip-flops, and that his blood alcohol level was elevated at the time of the murder. Witnesses testified that his life was spiraling out of control leading up to the murder and that the victim had sent texts expressing concern about Argoe’s drinking and failure to cover rent, leading to their eviction.
Additionally, the victim had planned to leave Argoe on the day of the murder, and her car was packed with belongings outside the apartment where she was killed. The victim’s daughter also testified that her mother had been a victim of domestic abuse for years leading up to her death.
Prosecutor David Osborne called the crime “unbelievably brutal and heinous” and stated that Argoe showed no remorse or sorrow during the trial. A press release from First Judicial Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe provided additional details on the case.
