Local News in Vermont: A Police Chief Faces Felony Sexual Assault Charge In 2017 Which Involves Minor

According to state police, a former Vermont police chief is accused of criminal sexual assault following a 2017 incident involving a minor.

The former chief of the Brighton and Canaan police departments, Jeffrey Noyes, 54, was cited to court on the accusation, according to the state police on Monday.

Noyes, of Bloomfield, is accused of taking the victim to a remote spot in East Brighton while they were both on duty and engaging in sexual activity there. The girl, who had frequently traveled with Noyes in his cruiser, wasn’t old enough to give her consent, according to the investigators base on the article published by Fox News Live on January 31, 2023.

The Technology Investigation Unit and troopers from the Derby barracks assisted the main detective, who was a detective from outside the area.

According to an article published by the US News on January 31, 2023, the Lamoille County State’s Attorney’s Office and the state police collaborated closely on the investigation. On Monday, Noyes showed up at the Derby State Police barracks, where he was processed and let go. On February 21, he must appear in court at Guildhall.

Noyes doesn’t have a listed phone number. If he had a lawyer, it was not immediately known.
