$200 to $1,050 Worth of Direct Payments Were Distributed Last Monday

California citizens who qualify will receive a Middle-Class Tax Refund of between $200 and $1,050. (MCTR). For Californians, this payment is the last one. Those whose addresses have moved since filing their 2020 tax return will receive it in the form of debit cards. More than $9 billion has already been distributed to qualifying taxpayers. In October 2022, the one-time payments first became available.

According to an article published by January 30, 2023, Californians have been getting their MCTR payments by debit card or direct transfer. Eligible taxpayers who e-filed their 2020 CA tax return and got their CA tax refund by direct deposit will get direct deposit payments. The remaining qualified taxpayers are receiving their MCTR debit card payments by mail.

If you complied with the following conditions, you may be entitled to a refund: you must have filed your 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021; you must meet the California adjusted gross income (CA AGI) limits; you must not have been entitled to claim a dependent in the 2020 tax year; you must have resided in California for at least six months of the 2020 tax year; and you must still be a resident of California on the date the refund is issued.

Depending on the banking institution, transactions may have taken place three to five working days after the issuance date if you received your money via direct deposit.
