On January 25, Jason Means’s girlfriend, Nicole Rahmel, had called 911 and reported about her boyfriend firing shots at their front door. Rahmel stated that Means, 47, was suffering from delusions thinking someone was trying to get inside their house. Fortunately, Rahmel and her 20-year-old son have already escaped to the roof of their house.

An article in the Fox News says that during the 911 call, Rahmel could be heard yelling at Means to surrender and drop his weapon. Rahmel was also heard telling the police officers not to kill him because he was suffering from a mental breakdown. A footage from a body camera revealed that the police officers followed Means to a side yard. It was when they all arrived in front of his house alongside a street when Means turned to the police officers and pointed a rifle.

Investigations on the Case

Interim Toledo Police Chief Michael Troendle stated that all seven police officers saw the same threat when Means pointed his rifle at them. He added that the police officers have asked Means to calm down even after firing once and put the weapon down at least 25 times. The police officers reportedly did everything they could, but the confrontation unfortunately ended tragically. A preliminary autopsy revealed that Means suffered from 22 gunshot wounds in his head, torso, legs, and left arm. The police officers reportedly fired several times which lasted around four seconds. All seven police officers will reportedly be placed on a paid administrative leave per collective bargaining agreements, as reported in Live 5 News
