Don’t Leave Your Social Security Benefits on Hold: A Guide to Retirement, SSDI, And SSI Payment Schedules

Tens of millions of households get benefits from Social Security programs, and it’s important to know your payment dates. Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) are all vital safety nets for retired and disabled Americans, based on a report released by The US Sun on January 16, 2023.

The timing of your Social Security retirement benefit payments Is determined by your birthday, with distributions made on three Wednesdays each month. For instance, if your birth date falls between the first and tenth, the deposit will be made on the second Wednesday of each month. If your birth date falls between the 11th and 20th, the deposit will be made on the third Wednesday of the month. Finally, if your birth date falls between the 21st and 31st, the deposit will be made on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

The payment schedule for those on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is generally similar to that of retirement benefits. However, there are some exceptions based on when you began the claiming process, which will be discussed later. In contrast, those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are paid on the first day of every month. However, according to CNET, on December 27, 2022, SSI claimants got their first COLA payments for 2023 on December 30, 2022, because of the holiday schedule.

SSI payments are intended for adults and children with a disability or blindness who meet certain financial limitations, such as income and resources. Additionally, SSI payments are provided to individuals who are 65 years old or older and do not have any disabilities, as long as they meet the financial requirements.
