Jermaine Garnes of Michigan was convicted of murder after beating a 3-year-old boy to his death in Lafayette, Indiana. Along with Garnes, his girlfriend was also charged in connection with the little boy’s death.
On January 11, a jury has convicted Jermaine Garnes of West Bloomfield, Michigan of murder and other counts such as battery on a person under 14 resulting in death, aggravated battery resulting in death, and neglect resulting in death. This was after the jury has discovered Garnes’ connection to the beating of Zeus Cox, 3, which resulted in his death in Lafayette, Indiana.According to U.S. News, in 2021, Garnes’ girlfriend, Crystal Lynn Cox, was also charged in connection with the little boy’s death. The little boy was discovered dead on a bedroom floor with bruises on his stomach, chest, and other parts of his body.

Accounts on the Boy’s Death
According to U.S. News, police said that the couple had given clashing narratives. Garnes stated that the little boy had fallen off his bicycle. On the other hand, Cox stated that the little boy had fallen on concrete, then ran into a table. However, according to witnesses, Garnes had struck the little boy with his fists. Autopsy also showed that the little boy died from several blunt force trauma injuries to his abdomen. These injuries caused the little boy’s internal bleeding, ruptured intestines, and rib fractures.
In May 2022, Cox was sentenced to 53 years in prison. This was after she was found guilty of battery on a person under 14 resulting in death, aggravated battery resulting in death, neglect resulting in death, and murder. On the other hand, Garnes’ has not been scheduled for sentencing yet.
