Get Your Share of $5.1 Million in Utility Credits – Check Your Eligibility Now

Spokane residents will receive utility bill credits, announced by Mayor Nadine Woodward, to assist with past-due bills for water, sewer, and solid waste services for 4,400 residents.

$5.1 million in credits will be provided as a one-time payment to help residents catch up on past-due utility bills, as stated in an article published by The Center Square on January 6, 2023. These credits will be labeled as “Relief Credit” or “Utility Relief” and will cover bills incurred after the pandemic, equating to roughly 2 years of unpaid bills for those impacted by COVID-19.

Utility bill credits will be applied to past-due amounts and will be visible on bills at different times for each resident as bills are sent out on different days. According to the Mayor’s office in an article released by the City of Spokane’s website, normal billing collection procedures will resume January 1, 2023, meaning residents are expected to pay for City utility services according to their established billing cycle and deadlines.

The Spokane City Council has approved $4 million in American Rescue Plan (ARPA) funds to assist in paying outstanding utility bills. Together with $1.9 million in state funding from the Department of Commerce, this funding will offer help to customers who have fallen behind on their City utility bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funding will be distributed to 4,400 pre-qualified customers and those who live in eligible areas, remaining funds, which is approximately $800,000, will be for those who qualify for assistance and haven’t applied yet.
