Get Your CalFresh Food Stamps in January: Payment Schedule Confirmed!

CalFresh is a California program that provides food assistance to low-income households that meet state and federal eligibility requirements, according to the California Department of Social Services. The benefits are distributed monthly through CalFresh EBT cards linked to CalFresh accounts. In January 2023, CalFresh payments will be made on the usual monthly schedule, which will include a 12.5% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) that has been approved for that year.

To be eligible for CalFresh, a household’s monthly income must generally be below 200% of the federal poverty level. You can apply for CalFresh benefits online or by calling a phone line. If you qualify for expedited CalFresh benefits, you may receive them on the same day or within a few days of submitting your application.

Also, to qualify for CalFresh, you must make less than $17,667 per year before taxes if you live alone, and less than $60,619 per year before taxes for households with 8 members, the Benefits.gov website reads.

CalFresh benefits are given out on specific days of the month, based on the last digit of your case number. They will be deposited onto your EBT card on that day, even if it falls on a weekend or holiday.

In January 2023, CalFresh benefits will be deposited onto EBT cards based on the last digit of the case number, with those ending in 1 being available on January 1st, those ending in 2 being available on January 2nd, and so on, until those ending in 0 being available on January 10th.

EBT cards can be used at grocery stores, participating retailers, and farmers’ markets, and you can find locations that accept CalFresh benefits by using the SNAP Retailer Locator or by visiting the website for a list of farmers’ markets that accept CalFresh benefits.

CalFresh benefits cannot be used to buy food that can be eaten or heated in the store, non-food items, alcohol, or tobacco products, according to the California Department of Social Services.
