Local news in Stockton Springs, Maine: Mother sentenced to 47 years for shocking murder of young son

According to a report published by WMTW-TV on December 21, 2022, Jessica Williams, also known as Jessica Trefethen, was sentenced to 47 years in prison on December 20th in Waldo County Superior Court. The sentence was given to Williams for the murder of her 3-year-old son, Maddox Williams, which occurred in June 2021.

Trefethen was arrested and charged with Maddox’s death after the medical examiner ruled it a homicide. While Trefethen claimed Maddox was injured after being dragged by a dog leash and then kicked by his sister, the autopsy found that Maddox suffered a fractured spine, bruising, internal bleeding, blunt force trauma, and other injuries, according to a published report of the Maine State Police on June 22, 2021.

At the trial, Assistant Attorney General Leane Zainea revealed, as reported by the News Center Maine, that the injuries would have required a significant amount of force, such as a punch or stomp.

Additionally, Maddox was reportedly missing some teeth, despite not yet having grown in his adult teeth, and Trefethen’s mother testified that Maddox was covered in bruises from head to toe, based on the report of WGME on December 20, 2022.

Trefethen’s sentence reflects the severe nature of the crime and the impact it had on Maddox and his family. This tragedy serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children and seeking help when needed.
