According to Russo, a village in Illinois named New Lenox offers its residents a tax rebate through the Property Tax Refund Program. The program has already been established for 13 years. For this year, the 2021 property taxes that were paid will be refunded 100%. Kimberly Auchstetter, the finance director and treasurer of the village, said that the rebates are on an average of $350 so far. A total of $2.1 million is said to be allotted towards the program this 2022. To be eligible, one must have lived in New Lenox in 2021 and still currently lives there. Property owners are also eligible but will need to submit proof of residence with their 2021 Levy Property Tax Bill.

Other States Offering Relief Payments

In San Francisco, California, a universal basic income program offers selected residents $1,200 every month for 18 months. To be eligible, one must identify as either transgender, non-binary, intersex, or nonconforming to gender. One must also be at least 18 years old and lives in San Francisco. They must also be earning less than $600 every month.

In Hawaii, rebates up to $300 were also sent out since the beginning of the fall. To be eligible, one must file a 2021 tax return by December 31. Another deadline is coming up on December 31 in Chicago. The Resiliency Fund 2.0 program offers its residents $500 in cash. To be eligible, one must be over the age of 18 and have an income that is at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level.

In Idaho, one must submit 2021 tax returns by December 31 to be able to claim rebates between the amount of $300 to $600. Idaho’s Tax Commission issues about 75,000 checks every week. In Pennsylvania, the Property Tax Program offers cash assistance of up to $1,658. This program benefits people aged 65 or above, widows and widowers aged 50 or older, and those with disabilities. To be eligible, one’s income must not exceed $35,000, as reported by Russo.
