New Mexico has experienced another mild, dry, and sunny afternoon to close out fall. Winter officially begins at 2:21 AM Saturday, but temperatures across the state will continue to feel more like mid-November. In Albuquerque, highs will approach 60°F, with sunny and dry conditions persisting. Other parts of New Mexico will also see above-average temperatures for this time of year.
By Sunday afternoon, winds will begin to increase in eastern New Mexico, bringing even warmer temperatures to the region. This seasonably warm and dry weather pattern is expected to last through Monday and Christmas Eve.

A storm system will brush New Mexico on Christmas Day. While it won’t bring significant moisture, some areas in the northern mountains could see up to a couple of inches of snow. A light mix of rain and snow may reach lower elevations in northern New Mexico and parts of southwest Colorado, but accumulation is expected to be minimal.
The main impact of the storm will be strong westerly winds, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph in parts of the state. Despite the windier conditions, temperatures will remain mild, similar to the current trend.
The storm is forecast to move out by next Thursday, with slightly cooler temperatures expected as the week ends.
