Snowstorm expected to hit Wednesday evening with heavy snowfall

Tuesday evening: Despite some light flurries in the Valley today, the snowfall has been minimal. Other than that, temperatures have stayed around average for this time of year, with overcast skies prevailing.

As we move into the night, temperatures are expected to drop into the single digits, but we can expect some partial clearing.

The weather conditions on Wednesday through Thursday have been marked as a First Alert Weather Day. The first half of Wednesday will be cold, with single-digit temperatures in the morning and throughout the day.

Later in the day, an impactful Alberta Clipper system will move in from the northwest, bringing snow and increasing winds. As a result, we have issued a First Alert Weather Day from Wednesday night through Thursday.

During this time, temperatures will rise slightly, but only into the teens, meaning that the precipitation will be in the form of snow. The snow will continue on Thursday morning, and temperatures will gradually fall throughout the day.

Winds will gust out of the northwest, reaching speeds of over 30 mph at times, leading to blowing and drifting snow as well as slick travel conditions. A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from Wednesday 6 pm through Thursday afternoon, with expected snowfall accumulations of 3-7 inches and gusty winds that will impact travel.

Visibility may drop below 1/4 mile due to a combination of falling and blowing snow, creating whiteout conditions and making travel very difficult. It is important to plan for hazardous road conditions, which could affect both the Thursday morning and evening commutes.

On Friday, brace yourself for another chilly day with temperatures dropping below zero in most areas. The highs will only reach the single digits and the skies will be mostly cloudy.

Additionally, there is a chance of light snow in the afternoon as another Alberta Clipper system passes through. It is important to note that this system will have less impact compared to the previous one, but there may still be some light accumulations.

Over the weekend, expect a “warming trend” with temperatures gradually rising. However, mornings will still be chilly, ranging from subzero to single digits, while highs will reach the single digits to low teens.

It will also be mostly cloudy, so don’t anticipate much sunshine. Fortunately, above-average temperatures will make a comeback starting from Monday.

Next week, temperatures are expected to rise into the upper-20s to low-30s, which is above normal for this time of year. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy, so there may not be much sunshine. Fortunately, it looks like precipitation chances will be low, so the holiday week should be mild and quiet.

Keep in mind that the holidays are still about a week away, so this forecast could change. Stay tuned to Valley News Live for any updates.
