Isolated Thunderstorms and Steady Rain Sweep Mississippi: Drive Carefully

Jackson is expected to experience a rainy Sunday with consistent showers and the potential for isolated thunderstorms affecting much of the area. Local officials are urging drivers to exercise caution, especially on major highways such as I-55, as wet conditions may make roads slick through the evening.

The National Weather Service in Jackson predicts that showers will likely pick up in intensity after 11 a.m., accompanied by southeast winds reaching up to 10 mph.

Today’s high temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-60s, with some areas potentially receiving up to half an inch of rainfall. Rain will continue into the evening, with a 100% chance of precipitation and temperatures dropping to 58 degrees overnight.

Looking at the forecast for Monday, there is a 50% chance of showers, mostly occurring before 7 a.m., but conditions should begin to clear by the afternoon. Highs will climb to the low 70s with calmer weather overnight as temperatures dip to 61.

Tuesday will see only a slight chance of early morning rain, transitioning to partly cloudy skies by afternoon with highs near 69 degrees.

By Wednesday, clear skies and sunshine will return, with temperatures reaching 53 degrees. However, nights will remain chilly, with lows in the 30s expected midweek.

As rainy conditions persist at the beginning of the week, officials are advising drivers to slow down and plan for extra commute time, especially during rush hour. Travelers on I-20 and I-55 should be on the lookout for ponding water and reduced visibility in wet conditions.

Stay updated on the forecast and have umbrellas ready as rain continues to dominate the weather until Tuesday.
