Which states will send stimulus payments in the coming days? This is how much you could receive

According to Marca, As the year draws to a close, residents in several U.S. states are set to receive tax refunds that will provide much-needed financial relief just in time for the holiday season. These payments are part of government efforts to help citizens manage basic expenses, especially for low-income families, amid ongoing inflation challenges.

Government Support in Times of Inflation

The recent rise in living costs has prompted the government to activate specific aid plans targeting various states across the country. In October 2024, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) initiated a program aimed at combating inflation and providing financial support to low-income households.

This latest round of payments is part of the Guaranteed Basic Income (GBI) program, a comprehensive, long-term strategy designed to assist U.S. citizens dealing with the financial strains of the post-COVID-19 economy. With a lower-than-expected Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) of just 2.5%, the GBI program aims to:

  • Provide support during economic stress
  • Enhance financial stability for vulnerable populations
  • Help households cover essential living expenses
  • Facilitate overall economic recovery

Addressing Current Economic Challenges

The GBI program is specifically geared towards helping families cope with today’s economic hurdles, including:

  • Inflation Relief: With the cost of daily necessities rising, GBI funding enables families to maintain their standard of living.
  • Essential Expenses: These funds are intended to assist with rent or mortgage payments, utilities, groceries, household needs, and transportation costs.
  • Medical Expenses: Recognizing the impact of inflation on healthcare costs, these payments help families manage increased medical expenses.

States Distributing Stimulus Payments

In the coming days, up to six states will distribute funds to residents, leveraging programs like the Permanent Fund Dividend in Alaska and tax refunds in other states. Here’s a breakdown of what residents can expect:

Alaska

Alaska’s Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) program shares profits generated by the state’s resources with residents. Eligible individuals can expect a payment of $650. Direct deposit recipients received their payments in September, while paper check recipients began receiving theirs in early October.

California

The Middle Class Tax Refund program in California offers payments of up to $4,350 for individuals earning less than $75,000 annually. Households with dependents will receive larger amounts. Payments are being distributed via debit card or direct deposit.

Idaho

In Idaho, tax refunds provide $300 for individual filers and $600 for couples filing jointly. Payments commenced in September and will continue on a staggered basis, ensuring all residents receive theirs by the end of December.

Rhode Island

Rhode Island is offering a one-time child tax rebate of $250 per child, with a maximum payment of $750 for up to three children per household. These payments are being processed throughout October.

South Carolina

With a budget allocation of $1 billion for aid, South Carolina is distributing $800 payments. Most residents will receive their funds in October, though some payments may extend into later months.

Virginia

Virginia’s tax refunds of $250 for individuals and $500 for couples were processed through direct deposit or paper checks during October.

Conclusion

These upcoming tax refunds are poised to provide a significant financial boost for many families as they navigate the end-of-year expenses. With inflation still a concern, these payments will help residents manage their basic needs and enjoy a more comfortable holiday season.
