According to The Sun, A Walmart shopper recently voiced her frustration after having to abandon a full cart of groceries at her local store due to the retailer’s refusal to accept Apple Pay. The woman took to Facebook to express her discontent, questioning, “Walmart why tf (sic) y’all don’t accept tap?”
A Growing Concern Among Shoppers
She explained that she was unable to complete her purchase because she only had tap-to-pay options available on her phone. “I had a full shopping cart, but had to leave it because y’all don’t accept Apple Pay. Y’all a multi-billion dollar company, do better and upgrade,” she added. This sentiment is echoed by many other customers who have faced similar issues, prompting them to leave their carts behind.
Customers Speak Out
Multiple frustrated shoppers shared their experiences on social media, lamenting the inconvenience. One wrote, “Went way to Walmart just to forget they don’t take Apple Pay; left the whole cart in line.” Another added, “I left my whole cart at Walmart because they didn’t accept Cash or Apple Pay. They gotta do better.” Comments like “Walmart not having Apple Pay is so annoying” highlight a growing frustration among customers, many of whom rely solely on mobile payments.
Walmart’s Payment Strategy
While over 90% of retailers in the U.S. accept Apple Pay, Walmart has opted to promote its own payment solution—Walmart Pay. This digital wallet, integrated into the retailer’s mobile app, allows customers to store debit, credit, and gift cards for in-store purchases. However, unlike Apple Pay, Walmart Pay can only be used in-store and not for online shopping or at other retailers.

When asked about the absence of Apple Pay, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon emphasized that the retailer prefers customers to engage with its app while in-store.
Upcoming Black Friday Sales
This controversy comes just as Walmart gears up for its Black Friday sale, which will kick off in a couple of weeks. Customers can expect significant discounts across 4,800 locations. Walmart+ members will have exclusive early access to the online sale starting Monday, November 11, at 12 PM ET. All other customers can shop online beginning at 5 PM ET, with in-store events launching on Friday, November 15, at 6 AM ET.
As the holiday shopping season approaches, the debate over payment options at Walmart is likely to continue, with customers hoping for more flexibility at the checkout.
