Walmart customer forced to abandon ‘full shopping cart’ after being denied pay method as retailer urged to ‘do better’


According to The Sun, A disgruntled Walmart shopper recently shared her frustration after she was forced to abandon a full cart of groceries at her local store due to the retailer’s refusal to accept Apple Pay.

The woman took to Facebook to express her dissatisfaction, stating, “I had a full shopping cart, but had to leave it because y’all don’t accept Apple Pay. Walmart, why tf (sic) y’all don’t accept tap?” Her comments highlight a growing frustration among customers who prefer using mobile payment options.

Many shoppers echoed her sentiments, with one user lamenting, “Went way to Walmart just to forget they don’t take Apple Pay left the whole cart in line.” Another chimed in, saying, “I left my whole cart at Walmart because they didn’t accept Cash or Apple Pay. They gotta do better.” These sentiments reflect a wider trend, as over 90% of retailers in the U.S. reportedly accept Apple Pay, according to Capital One Shopping.

Walmart’s decision to exclude Apple Pay is part of its strategy to promote its own payment system, Walmart Pay. This digital wallet, available in the retailer’s mobile app, allows customers to store debit, credit, and gift cards for in-store purchases. However, unlike Apple Pay, Walmart Pay cannot be used for online shopping or with other retailers, leading to frustration among shoppers who rely on mobile payment methods.

In a recent statement, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon noted that the company aims to encourage customers to use its app while shopping in-store. As Black Friday approaches, with sales set to begin in mid-November, it remains to be seen whether Walmart will reconsider its stance on mobile payment options.

As Walmart prepares for its upcoming Black Friday sale, with significant price cuts expected across 4,800 locations, customers will be watching closely to see if the retailer adjusts its payment policies to accommodate a wider range of payment methods.
