Monday is the deadline to register to vote in Texas for the 2024 general election. If you find yourself waiting until the last minute, here’s how you can register.

People seeking to register to vote can print out an application at their county website or the Texas Secretary of State’s website or obtain one at post offices or DMV offices.

“It just needs the postmark for October 7^th,” said Laura Aranda, communications director for the Harris County Tax Office. “So, what we recommend is that people walk into the post office to actually have the postmark placed on their letter.”

Alternatively, in Harris County, people seeking to register can hand deliver their application to any tax office location.

“We are keeping our downtown Harris County tax office at 1001 Preston — we are extending our hours from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. (on Monday) to help people get to the office so they can drop off their voter registration application, or if they need any help, if they need to talk to somebody in our voter registration office, we’ll be here to help,” Aranda said.

Aranda urged people already registered to go to their voter registration website to double-check their information so that they don’t get an unwelcome surprise when they go to cast their ballot.

“For instance,” Aranda said, “if someone married and changed their name, if they divorced (and) changed their name, or if they’ve moved and they need to update their address, October 7^th is the deadline to do that.”
