What advice would you give your younger self? – Houston Public Media

A number of films have explored the concept: characters in some way visited by their future or past selves and one or both dispense advice or learn something from the other (you know, if they don’t get bogged down in time travel paradoxes).

The latest example is called My Old Ass. In it, an 18-year-old meets her 39-year-old self and has to reckon with advice from the presumably older and wiser version.

Producer Joshua Zinn considers the film and the questions it raises about youth and maturing, and — because we’re the show we are — applies it to Houston on this month’s edition of The Bigger Picture.

Houston-area film critic Michael Bergeron talks about how movies like My Old Ass and others before it have handled this kind of device. And then Marcus Davis, who owns The Breakfast Klub restaurant and is among our many rotating panelists on The Good the Bad and the Ugly, talks about the lessons he’s learned over the years — both personally and professionally — and what advice he would give his younger self.
