Houston Texans pledge $1 million for Hurricane Helene relief efforts – Houston Public Media

The Houston Texans will donate $1 million for Hurricane Helene relief efforts, the team announced on Sunday.

The effects of the hurricane have stretched more than 500 miles from the Florida coast, where it landed as a category 4 storm late Thursday night. More than 90 people have died across five states left in Helene’s devastating path.

The Texans’ donation will be used to support those impacted with immediate and long-term aid, according to a press release.

“We are committed to supporting those who have been impacted by the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene,” Cal McNair, Houston Texans Chair and CEO said in a statement.

“Giving back is at the heart of who we are as an organization and we hope our support will help to provide resources to those in need throughout the region,” McNair said.

In western North Carolina, landslides, collapsed roads and flooding have left southern Appalachia towns, like Asheville, reeling in the devastation wrought by Helene. At least 30 people died, and more than 1,000 were reported missing in one North Carolina mountain county.

President Joe Biden pledged assistance from the federal government for areas battered by Hurricane Helene. He said the impacts of the storm were devastating, and asserted he would visit storm-damaged cities to assess damage this week, AP reported.

Donations can be made on the American Red Cross website. Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond and help people recover from the disaster, according to a donation webpage. The organization has raised more than $84,000.
