Cowboys-Giants Open Thread: Two teams whose 1 win came from the Browns

Week 4 of the NFL gets going tonight with a Thursday Night Football game that seems even worse now than when it was scheduled in the summer. The Dallas Cowboys take on the New York Giants. For the markets, it’s sure to get ratings, but unless you are a fan of either team, it’s probably a game that can be easily forgettable.

Both these teams have one very, very sad thing in common: Their only win in the three weeks of the 2024 NFL season has been over the Cleveland Browns.

The Cowboys were on their way to an embarrassment against the Baltimore Ravens, ending the 3rd quarter in Week 3 28-6. The Ravens started what could have been an epic meltdown in the fourth quarter, allowing the Cowboys to score three unanswered touchdowns. Since it was a 22-point lead and not 14 points, it makes it even harder to let a team back into the game. Unlike another team I know of. Failing your two-point conversions (Dallas) doesn’t help matters much, either. The clock wasn’t on Dallas’ side, and their last touchdown came with 2:53 left in the game.

The Giants beat the Browns. The Browns’ only win this season came over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the same Jaguar team the Buffalo Bills embarrassed on Monday Night Football just a few days ago. The Giants beat them, scoring three touchdowns in the first half and then doing pretty much nothing in the second half—well, besides letting the Browns be the Browns.

FanDuel Sportsbook has the Cowboys favored by 5.5 points. Since the game is in New York, I’m making a reluctant bet on the Giants losing this, but within that margin (plus, we’re 49ers fans; who’s betting on the Cowboys?). So, bet the Giants and the points. The over-under is set at 45.5. Take the over. Daniel Joines isn’t going to light the world on fire, but I feel there can be some garbage time to your benefit.
