Falcons-Eagles Open Thread: Kirk Cousins vs Jalen Hurts, bird vs bird

I promise Week 2 is almost over. Tonight, we have a Monday Night Football game that many may as much just turn off. The Atlanta Falcons travel to Philadelphia to face the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles are back from their international game in Brazil. It was a very strange game, but they eventually won as our lives drug on over the Green Bay Packers. Jalen Hurts threw two interceptions in the game, and it seemed more like Philadelphia outlasted the Packers than anything else. Packers quarterback Jordan Love went down with an injury late in the game, and that pretty much meant the end of things.

The Falcons have Kirk Cousins on the roster. That’s really all you can say about them. It’s still strange to realize Cousins is in Atlanta now, but there you go. They lost a snoozefest to the Pittsburgh Steelers 18-10. It’s a game you don’t even need to watch highlights of to know it was boring unless you’re a Steelers fan.

Why boring? Think of last week’s San Francisco 49ers game against the New York Jets and all six of those Jake Moody field goals seasoned with some 49er touchdowns. Now, take away all the 49ers’ touchdowns in that game, as well as that late-game touchdown by the Jets. What are you left with? A team that quite literally field goal’d the other to death. That’s what happened to the Falcons. They went up against a Pittsburgh Steelers squad helmed by Justin Fields and managed a single touchdown and a field goal. The Steelers kicked six field goals to win the game.

Chris Boswell would have been a good pickup if you couldn’t get Jake Moody for your fantasy team. Anyways, back to the Falcons. That’s not a good glimpse of your season, and while you’d want to chalk it up to Week 1 slop, the Falcons aren’t exactly an elite roster. Their top receiving option last week was none other than former 49er Ray-Ray McCloud III with 52 yards. Cousins went 16 for 26 with a touchdown and two picks. Not his best showing. Welcome to Atlanta.

FanDuel Sportsbook has the Eagles favored by 5.5 points. That’s…not enough, even if wide receiver A.J. Brown is out due to injury. I’m all over the Eagles in this. I’d also bet the score is over 45.5 points here. While the Eagles are the Eagles, it’s the first game in Philly, and I’d expect them to put some points up, as well as the Falcons getting garbage time touchdowns towards the end.

If you want to throw money away but are intrigued, bet the Falcons scoring in all four quarters. That’s some decent odds for a flyer prop bet.

I really do think the Eagles are going to have their way with the Falcons despite their injury issues. I’m all over taking the Eagles in this.
