Enhancing Bilateral Trade and Investment Opportunities in U.S.-Latin America Ties

According to the US Chamber of Commerce, the “Forecast on Latin America and the Caribbean” Conference, two important U.S. government officials Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo and Gen. Laura J. Richardson spoke about why it’s crucial for the United States to have a holistic collaboration with Latin America and the Caribbean. They pointed out that right now the U.S. depends a lot on China and Southeast Asia for things like computer chips, which are crucial for our military. Raimondo suggested that countries closer to home like Mexico and Costa Rica could help with making these chips making it safer and creating good jobs.

General Richardson also talked about the big potential of holistic collaboration with Latin America and the Caribbean for things like farming and natural resources. She mentioned that many people from this region try to move to the U.S. for a better life, but she thinks it would be better if they could achieve their dreams in their own countries. Richardson stressed that American companies need to show how they do business, like treating workers well and following environmental rules. She said that leaders in Latin America and the Caribbean don’t always know about the good things the U.S. is doing, so it’s important to talk about it more. The goal is not just about making money but also making sure everyone benefits.
