Investigators Identifies Suspect in 9-year-old Debbie Lynn Randall Cold Case Murder

Investigators have identified the killer of a 9-year-old girl Debbie Lynn Randall who was abducted over 50 years ago, just block from her Georgia home.

Investigators identified 9-year-old Debbie Lynn Randall’s Killer

According to CBS NEWS, investigators finally identified the 9 year-old-girl Debbie Lynn Randall’s killer through the help of DNA testing and forensic technology, more than 50 years after she was abducted.

According to Cobb County District Attorney Flynn Broady, Debbie Lynn Randall was abducted on January 13, 1972 and had been sexually assaulted and strangled. Broady added that she was on her way home from a laundromat. Debbie Lynn Randall’s body was found after 16 days.

Advances in DNA and forensics led to a cold case breakthrough, and identified William Rose  who is not in the investigators radar as Debbie Lynn Randall’s killer. Marietta Police Department recovered a hair and cloth during the original investigation. An inclonclusive FBI test in 2001 followed. In 2015, the cloth revealed a partial profile of an unknown male. In 2022, further DNA analysis, with the help of relatives’ DNA samples.  The suspect, William Rose, had committed suicide in 1974 at the age of 24, confirming his connection to the case after his exhumed body was tested.

Family’s Bittersweet Closure on Debbie Lynn Randall Death

In a report from Fox 5, the case had haunted the investigators for over 50 years, with hundreds of leads pursued to no avail, leaving it cold. During a press conference, Attorney Broady, Jr. expressed the aim of providing answers and potential closure to the family.

Debbie Lynn Randall’s parents passed away before her killer was identified, but her brother, Melvin Randall, expressed gratitude to the investigators for their relentless efforts.

According to Debbie Lynn Randall’s brother, their family, appreciates everything that the investigators have done and wishes that his mother was there, but he also stated that his mother in heaven knows it’s finally over.
