A juvenile lost her life at a residence on Friday after a Questa shooting incident. The New Mexico State Police have issued a news release confirming the Questa shooting incident and announcing that a suspect has been taken into custody.
Questa Shooting Incident Kills Juvenile
The Questa shooting incident occurred at a home situated on Cabresto Road.
According to a published article, the authorities responded to a report of a homicide at the residence of William Brown, 39, on Friday in Questa.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that four juveniles were present at the scene, hanging out and listening to music. Tragically, a 14-year-old boy allegedly pointed a pistol at a 13-year-old girl and pulled the trigger, resulting in her death.
Following the Questa shooting incident, the boy reportedly moved the girl’s body outside and then returned to the residence. Upon arriving at the scene, William Brown and his son refused to cooperate with the police for approximately half an hour.
Questa Shooting: 14-Year-Old Suspect Faces Charges
According to a published article, the State Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the Questa shooting and killing of the juvenile victim.
The unnamed 14-year-old Questa shooting suspect is facing severe charges in connection with the tragedy.
These charges include an open count of first-degree murder, two counts of assault on a police officer, and two counts of tampering with evidence. The Questa shooting suspect has been confined to the San Juan Juvenile Detention Center in Farmington pending further legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, William Brown, the father of the suspect, has also been arrested in the Questa shooting incident. He has been booked into Taos County jail on the charge of negligently making a firearm accessible to a minor resulting in death.
This charge of the Questa shooting suspect and his father is based on a recently enacted law known as Bennie’s Law, which criminalizes making guns available to minors who subsequently use them in criminal activities. The law was named in memory of Bennie Hargrove, a 13-year-old who tragically lost his life in a school shooting incident in Albuquerque in August 2021.
