The Traffic Stop and Unleashing of the Ohio Police K-9

The incident was captured on video and has called for a thorough investigation into the conduct of the officers involved.

On July 4th, a pursuit ensued after law enforcement officers attempted to stop a semi-tractor trailer driven by a 23-year-old Black man named Jadarrius Rose for a missing mud flap.

The vehicle failed to stop for inspection, leading to a lengthy chase that eventually ended on a state highway about 40 miles south of Columbus.

According to CNN, after deploying tire deflation devices, the vehicle came to a halt and Black man Rose emerged from the truck with his hands raised, seemingly ready to surrender to the authorities.

An officer with the Circleville Police Department disregarded the instructions of a state trooper, who explicitly told him not to release the police dog.

Despite the clear commands to hold back the K-9, the officer unleashed the dog which proceeded to charge at the Black man who was already on his knees. The video footage shows the canine biting and pulling the unarmed Black man, who pleaded for the dog to be taken off him.

The Response and Ongoing Investigation

According to U.S. News, following the dog attack, the Black man was immediately provided with first aid, and emergency medical personnel were summoned to the scene.

The Black man was subsequently taken into custody by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The case is currently under investigation, and both the actions of the officer and the Circleville Police Department’s role are being scrutinized.

The incident involving the Black man has drawn strong condemnation from various quarters. The NAACP Columbus Branch President, Nana Watson, referred to the officer’s actions as “barbaric behavior,” drawing comparisons to past injustices faced by civil rights activists in the 1960s.
