Biden’s Latest Student Debt Relief Plan To Cancel $39 Billion Opposed by Iowa Senator

U.S. President Biden announced a new Student Debt Relief Plan that intends to cancel $39 billion in student loans. However, Senator Grassley of Iowa argued that non-students do not have the obligation to pay student loans.

On July 19, U.S. President Joe Biden announced a new Student Debt Relief Plan that intends to cancel the student loans of thousands of borrowers. Under the new Student Debt Relief Plan, individuals who earn less than $125,000 per year could have their student loans canceled for up to $10,000. In addition, those who receive Pell Grants are qualified for more loan relief other than the new Student Debt Relief Plan.

However, according to Kelley, one of the critics who oppose the new Student Debt Relief Plan is Senator Charles Grassley of the state of Iowa. Grassley argued that non-students must not be obligated to pay for the student loans of borrowers.

Grassley Opposes Student Debt Relief Plan

According to Hendrickson, despite Grassley being opposed to the new Student Debt Relief Plan, his family reportedly has a history of receiving relief payments for agriculture from the U.S. federal government. Environmental Working Group records revealed that Grassley’s family has received more than $1.75 million in farm subsidies in the last twenty years.
