Oregon Server Dies Defending LGBTQ Companion

On the night of his untimely death, Oregon server Colin had just finished a late-night shift at OX Restaurant in Northeast Portland and decided to join his co-workers for a drink, People reported.

Accompanied by friends, including a non-binary individual, they visited The High Dive, a bar in Southeast Portland’s Buckman neighborhood. Sadly, an altercation ensued when a man allegedly made homophobic comments and physically assaulted two members of the group.

Oregon server Colin immediately stepped in to defuse the situation, intending to de-escalate tensions. Tragically, in a sudden turn of events, he was fatally stabbed.

The Portland Police Bureau released a statement confirming Oregon server Colin’s death and announcing the arrest of 24-year-old Rahnique U. Jackson on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.

Although the suspect has not been charged with a hate crime, Solis firmly believes that the attack was motivated by bigotry.

Recalling Oregon server Colin’s life, his loved ones highlight his unwavering commitment to being a caregiver and advocate for those in need.

Danielle Smith, Colin’s sister, emphasizes the importance of sticking up for people and promoting compassion in society.

Paulina Solis, Colin’s ex-girlfriend and close friend, remembers his strong values in supporting the underdog and looking out for those who were often overlooked.

Solis describes Oregon server Colin as someone who genuinely connected with others, whether it was engaging with servers or showing empathy towards grocery store clerks and homeless individuals. He saw people as individuals, with deep respect and understanding for their humanity.

Julie Smith, Oregon server Colin’s mother, reflects on her son’s humble and selfless character, noting that he tragically lost his life while defending a friend—an act that came naturally to him.

Greg Denton, Oregon server Colin’s colleague, and owner of OX Restaurant, initiated a GoFundMe campaign to support the server’s family. The campaign has already raised over $20,000, showcasing the impact Colin had on those around him.

Rather than dwell on the tragedy, Solis and Colin’s loved ones aim to share his story as a testament to his tolerance and generosity. They hope that Colin’s untimely death will inspire positive change, prompting people to intentionally be good and kind to one another.
