Fund for Reparations Payout
According to Brown, the reparations payout will be distributed in cash or vouchers that were intended to come from real estate transfer and marijuana taxes. However, the Evanston Round Table have observed that the sales tax revenue of marijuana decelerated after the opening of another dispensary was delayed. Nonetheless, another dispensary is scheduled to open in September which intends to help in the reparations payout.
Fortunately, Evanston officials predict that the reparations payout will be funded by the suburb’s graduated real estate transfer tax. Tasheik Kerr, assistant to the city manager, stated that $1,188,000 has already been collected to fund the reparations payout.
