A Fort Wayne man has chosen to enter a guilty plea in connection with the tragic incident that occurred at a gas station in 2021, resulting in the deaths of two young men and the injury of a third.
Fort Wayne Man Agrees to Guilty Plea
The accused Fort Wayne man, Joseph Bossard, has agreed to plead guilty to two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. According to reports from various news outlets, Fort Wayne man Bossard has also accepted responsibility for a firearm charge as part of a plea agreement negotiated with the prosecutors, U.S. News reported.
This plea deal could potentially lead to a minimum prison sentence of 65 years for him.
As part of the agreement reached on Thursday, the prosecution has agreed to drop the charges of aggravated battery and criminal recklessness against the Fort Wayne man. Additionally, their request for a life sentence without parole will not be pursued.
However, the final decision regarding the approval of the Fort Wayne man’s plea agreement rests with the presiding judge, who will carefully review the details of the case before making a ruling.
Fort Wayne Man Shoots Two Men
The shooting incident occurred on February 17, 2021, when an argument escalated at a gas station. The argument resulted in the tragic shooting of Joshua Cooper and Anderson Retic, both 19 years old, who were sitting inside a car.
Another individual identified as Jaylin Rice, aged 20, sustained serious injuries and was subsequently hospitalized.
Fort Wayne man Bossard’s trial was delayed due to concerns raised regarding his mental competency. After undergoing thorough evaluations, he was deemed fit to stand trial in early 2022. As a result, a sentencing hearing has been scheduled for August 11, where the final determination regarding the length of Fort Wayne man Bossard’s imprisonment will be made.
