IRS Apologizes As Incorrect Tax Payment Deadline Confuses Taxpayers in California

Taxpayers in California were brought into confusion after being given notices of a tax payment deadline. However, the Internal Revenue Service disseminated a digital notice to disregard the incorrect ones.

Thousands of taxpayers in California were brought into confusion after they have been given notices of a tax payment deadline in the next few weeks. Reportedly, the notices were disseminated in the 51 counties that have been affected by severe winter storms, flooding, and mudslides.

Unfortunately, according to Haring, these 51 counties were already granted with a tax payment deadline extension on October 16. This deadline was an extension from the initial May 15 and the accustomed April 15 dates. Reports say these counties include Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, and Ventura.

Incorrect Tax Payment Deadline

According to Pender, some taxpayers in California who have not been affected by the disasters are worried that they are now compelled to pay taxes on the tax payment deadline. However, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) have already disseminated a digital notice informing the taxpayers to disregard the incorrect notice. On June 7, the IRS announced that the taxpayers in California can still have their taxpayment deadline extended later this year.
