An article in Fox News states that in 2022, Eratay and Gumrukcu pleaded not guilty to the charges of wire fraud. These federal charges they were facing were allegedly linked to an international oil deal.
Nonetheless, reports say both were previously charged with contracting another suspect, Jerry Banks of Colorado, to abduct and kill Gregory Davis, 49, of Danville, Vermont. Following the crime, Davis’ body was discovered by the side of a snowy, back road in Vermont.

According to an article in El Paso Inc., earlier this month, Banks changed the plea he entered to guilty. Prosecutors stated that after Davis threatened to report to the FBI about his involvement in a fraudulent oil deal with Gumrukcu, Banks was contracted for the murder for hire plot. Aren Lee Ethridge of Las Vegas, another suspect, also pleaded guilty in July 2022 and is awaiting sentencing.
