LIHEAP is a Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program that provides financial assistance funded by the U.S. federal government. The LIHEAP payments are distributed to recipients to reduce the costs associated with energy bills, crises in energy, and home repairs related to energy.

An article in the Washington Examiner states that the LIHEAP payments are generally for households with low incomes, especially those with high costs of energy, or with members who are elderly, disabled, or young. This summer, recipients are expected to receive the funds to help pay for the air conditioning utilities in their homes.
