KRLD News Radio reported that Gov. Abbott has prepared to call the Texas legislature for a special session about school vouchers in Texas.

School Vouchers In Texas Supported By Gov. Abbott

Gov. Greg Abbott wants to prioritize school vouchers in Texas as the issue of school choice has been a major problem in the state. Gov. Abbott wants to prioritize this issue for this legislative session.

Gov. Abbott has long considered school choice a priority as he talked about his rally in Dallas last year in August.

Presently, parents received $8,000 per student to use in their educational services through the proposed Senate Bill 8, this includes private school tuition.

On the other hand, the House had passed a budget amending any voucher-like programs, so representatives in the House created a new measure and scale back eligibility.

School vouchers in Texas want to be prioritized by Gov. Abbott in the upcoming session, he believed that a robust school choice program will enable parents to choose schools that are best for their children.

Governor Abbott wants to call a special session for lawmakers to work together to pass a bill with at least as many students qualified as the original measure does.
