TurboTax settlement checks will soon be in your hands. If you are one of the Americans who qualified for free tax services but paid TurboTax for their returns, this is a sign for you to check your mail from time to time.

Who Qualifies For The $141 Million TurboTax Settlement?
TurboTax’s owner Intuit Inc. was ordered last year to pay 4.4 million to people across the country of $141 million. New York Attorney General Letitia James said due to predatory and deceptive marketing, those low-income consumers were eligible for federally-supported tax services for free but instead paid TurboTax for them to file federal returns during the 2016, 2017, and 2018 consecutive tax years.
All 5o states signed the settlement on May 2022 including the District of Columbia. Eligible consumers don’t need to file a claim for their payments. They will be automatically notified through an email from Rust Consulting and can receive a check automatically, ABC News reported.
During the May 2022 settlement, James revealed that her investigation into Intuit has started during a 2019 ProPublica report. The report found that the company was using deceptive tactics to maneuver low-income tax files away from free federal services that they qualified for and avail to its commercial products instead.
The “Free, free, free” ad campaign was suspended during last year’s settlement to lessen the impact of their advertising that offered free services that were not free for everyone.

When Will TurboTax Settlement Checks Be Mailed?
TurboTax settlement checks will be mailed starting next week and will continue through May. Eligible consumers will be receiving amounts ranging from $29 to $85, but it will depend on the tax years they qualify for.
TurboTax settlement checks will soon be in the hands of eligible American consumers because of the TurboTax settlement that happened last May 2022. You should check your mail from time to time for updates.
