A California woman was convicted of a misdemeanor and claimed that a couple tried to kidnap her children last 2020, CNN reported.
California Woman Convicted For Misdemeanor
A California jury has convicted Kathleen Sorensen of a misdemeanor. She claimed and told the police that a couple attempted to kidnap her children.
The convicted California woman could serve up to six months in jail after the verdict, the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office announced.
The incident happened last December 07, 2020, at a Bay Area Michaels craft store when Sorensen and her two children shopped at this store. Sorensen left with her two children after buying several items, they drove out to the parking lot. Several minutes later, the California woman called the Petaluma Police Department and reported that a couple tried to kidnap her children.
The California woman even recorded and posted a video on Instagram that went viral about the incident a week later. Sorensen also went to local news and reported the incident.
The police department said that her report proved to be wrong and contradicted by the couple accused as well as the store video that was obtained.

The Couple Speak Up Against the California Woman
The alleged couple who are accused of kidnapping speak up, just days following the incident. Latina girl Sadie Martinez suspected the incident was racially motivated. The couple couldn’t believe it and said it was like they were guilty of being brown while shopping.
The verdict of the California woman has made the couple happy. They said that justice was served and they are grateful for the support of their family members.
Other charges were also filed against Sorensen but she was acquitted of those charges.
The bail was set at $100,000 and Sorensen posted bail and was released until her sentencing date on June 14.
Overall, the California woman was found guilty and convicted of a misdemeanor and accused a couple of attempting to kidnap her children. The incident was proven wrong by the couple and the police.
