“Doomsday Mom” Lori Vallow Daybell Accused of Killing Two Own Children

Lori Vallow Daybell was accused of killing her two own children and husband’s first wife. Vallow Daybell was also known as the “Doomsday Mom” because she believes that doomsday is coming and people’s bodies are possessed by evil spirits.

In 2006, Lori Vallow Daybell, also known as the “Doomsday Mom”, 49, had her daughter Tylee Ryan, 16, from her previous marriage with her fourth husband, Charles Vallow. In 2012, Lori and Charles reportedly adopted a boy named Joshua, then 2, whose biological father was Charles’ nephew.

According to Gualtieri, in 2018, however, the Doomsday Mom met Chad Daybell, 54. The following year, the Vallows separated and Charles filed for a divorce stating that Lori had threatened to kill him. Unfortunately, in 2019, Charles was shot to death after an argument with Lori’s brother, Alex Cox, in Arizona, where the Vallows were living at the time. Eventually, Lori and her children decided to move to Idaho.

However, later in 2019, Tammy Daybell, the mother of Chad’s five children, died at their residence in Idaho. Initially, the cause of Tammy’s death was reported as due to natural causes but later was found suspicious. Reportedly, two weeks after Tammy’s death, Lori and Chad married in Hawaii.

Charges Faced by the Doomsday Mom

According to Pagones, Joshua’s biological grandparents, Kay and Larry Woodcock, state that the last time they spoke to the boy was in August 2019. In November, Kay asked for authorities in Rexburg, Idaho, to check on Joshua, but the Doomsday Mom stated that he was in Arizona with Melanie Gibb, a family friend. Gibb, however, insisted that she had not seen Joshua for months.

By December, the FBI and police were already searching for Tylee and Joshua that continued until 2020, when authorities searched the Doomsday Mom’s residence in Rexburg. Upon investigation, authorities discovered Tylee and Joshua’s remains.

Thereafter, Lori and Chad were charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the children’s deaths and murder. In addition, the Doomsday Mom also faced charges of felony and grand theft for allegedly collecting Social Security benefits for her children. Lori was also charged with conspiracy to commit murder for the death of Tammy Daybell and Charles Vallow. Nonetheless, both Lori and Chad have pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The Doomsday Mom’s trial began on April 10 in Boise, Idaho and is expected to continue for up to 10 weeks. This is because after a week of jury selection, several possible jurors were dismissed for having already developed an opinion. In the end, a jury of 10 men and 8 women is expected to hear the trial.
