Utah Man’s Marriage Crumbles, Leading to Tragic Murder-Suicide of Wife, Children, and Mother-in-Law: Police Report Unveils Chilling Details

Michael Haight, a 42-year-old Utah resident, allegedly killed his wife, five children, and mother-in-law in a murder-suicide on January 4th. The incident occurred in their home in Enoch, Utah, just two weeks after Tausha, Michael’s wife of 20 years, filed for divorce.

Police have recently released a final report into the incident, which sheds light on the events leading up to the tragedy. According to the report, Michael left behind a suicide note blaming his wife for the couple’s marriage problems. He claimed that he could not stand Tausha’s constant fault-finding, gossiping, and disparaging behavior toward him. Michael’s children included a 17-year-old girl, a 12-year-old girl, two 7-year-old children, and a 4-year-old boy.

The report also revealed that one of Michael’s children texted a friend on December 12th, 2022, stating that she needed someone to ensure she was safe. Divorce papers were drawn up on December 21st, 2022, with Tausha’s attorney. Two days later, Michael allegedly told a client that he had left his job as an insurance agent at Allstate.

Michael made several concerning Google searches, including ones related to the loudness of gunshots, prior to the incident. On January 3rd, Michael recorded a video on his phone, asking his wife to work things out. He also texted Tausha to talk but received no response, based on a report by Fox News.

Discovery of the Incident

On January 4th, a neighbor reported hearing what she thought were fireworks at around 3:30 a.m. Police conducted a welfare check later that morning and found all family members dead with gunshot wounds.

City officials released a statement expressing their condolences to the family and offering support to the community. The contents of the police report demonstrate that the investigators worked tirelessly for three months to uncover the circumstances that led up to the disaster.
