The shooting suspect who gunned down a police officer and a civilian in New Jersey committed suicide after the incident. Fortunately, the cop and the civilian were immediately treated in a nearby hospital for their injuries.

In the afternoon of April 8, a police officer, along with a civilian, were reportedly shot in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. Prosecutor James Pfeiffer of Warren County stated that a bullet went through the door of the police officer’s car and into his leg. Pfeiffer added that the investigators of the incident believe that the shooting suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting the female civilian in her torso.

According to Vacchiano, fortunately, both the police officer and civilian were immediately transported to a nearby hospital after the incident while still conscious and alert. To date, both victims are being treated for their injuries at St. Luke’s Hospital. The officials of the Town of Phillipsburg also posted an update on Facebook that there is no threat to the residents of Phillipsburg anymore.

No Immediate Threat After the Shooting Suspect

According to an article by the CBS New York Team, on a Facebook post, it is revealed that the Phillipsburg Police Department is still investigating the incident involving the shooting suspect. To date, there is no information released that has been confirmed yet and there is no immediate threat to the residents.

Peter Marino, the Town Councilman, stated that the incident exhibits how police officers are much needed in the community of Phillipsburg. Other local police departments like the Lebanon Township Police Department and Hackettstown Police Department also posted on Facebook offering their thoughts and prayers to the victims.
