In April 2022, Yue “Emily” Yu’s husband stated that he installed cameras in the kitchen of their house after he noticed a weird taste to his tea. The hidden cameras eventually captured the California doctor, 45, pouring a liquid drain cleaner into a tea on three instances. Hours of the video was also available to prove their accusations.

An article on the CBS News states that the husband then collected samples of the drink that he submitted to authorities. The authorities later confirmed that the drink contained liquid drain cleaner which caused the stomach ulcers the husband had suffered. In August 2022, the California doctor was reportedly arrested but was eventually released on bail.

Indictment of the California Doctor

According to Schladebeck, the California doctor was eventually indicted by a grand jury. Yu reportedly faced charges of one count of domestic battery with injury and three felony counts of poisoning. Yu’s indictment also required her to report to the Medical Board of California. This will determine whether Yu can continue to practice medicine.

Consequently, if Yu will be convicted on all counts, she will face a maximum of eight years and eight months in prison. On April 18, the California doctor is scheduled to be arraigned, but her lawyer, Scott Simmons, declared that Yu will plead not guilty. This is because Simmons argues that Yu’s husband was desperate for a divorce filing.
